NEW PHONE NUMBER

We now have a new USA phone number.  It is 612-454-5683.  If you can call Minneapolis, you can call us!  Try it some time.  We would love to hear from you.

HE IS RISEN!  HALLELUJAH!

Easter is a big to do here in The Bahamas.  Good Friday and Easter Monday are national holidays.  A lot of churches have Good Friday church services (and they wear black).  On Easter Sunday, parishioners wear light colored clothing.   On the Thursday before Easter, we attended a Seder Supper conducted by a Messianic Jewish Rabbi.  The supper was hosted by Abundant Life Bible Church.

TEARFUL GOOD-BYES

This past Tuesday we here at the ALC said good-bye to a dear couple.   Bob and Faye Browning left to go back to their home in Canada.  They come here  every year to spend 3 months serving at the Adventure Learning Centre and Camp.  Bob helps Tom Schafer with maintenance and Faye helps Ms. Aida feed the children at the Centre and us clean and keep the camp ready for our guests.  They are going to be sorely missed, not only because of all the hard work they do, but also because their friendship and companionship has been greatly treasured.   Faye was like a mom to me, and I am going to miss our conversations, her encouragement and wise words/advice, and our afternoon coffee breaks together.  Thank you, Bob and Faye, for being a part of our lives and for all the hard work and long hours you put in here at the ALC!

Good-bye Faye!

Another good-bye... Cornelius was an ALC facilitator that just recently left as well. He came here from his home in Germany last September. We are going to miss Cornelius.

MINISTRY WORK

Tim is still working on the bathhouse’s shower tile cleaning/fixing project, but because of other pressing jobs and obligations and his monthly overnight trip to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, he has not had time to work on the project over the last several days.  One of the jobs that has pulled him away is installing a second water heater in the bathhouse.  The other job/task is the work on getting the new electrical house built here at camp.  A lot of other projects hinge on the new electrical house being built; therefore we feel this job is a priority.  Construction of the electrical house is slated to start Monday.  Hallelujah!

With Faye gone, camp laundry and cleaning of the cottages and bathhouse now rests solely on our shoulders.  I spent a good part of my week, developing a system which will make the process manageable and time efficient.   I think I may have it under control now.  Thank you LWBC for allowing me to steal some of your techniques, and thank you Lord for the gift of “ability to organize”.

We have hosted a couple day events for local churches over the last few weeks, but other than that, camp has been empty, up until now.  Five people from Walnut Hill Community Church in Connecticut arrived Thursday (their leader, Chelsea, actually arrived here on Tuesday) and will be staying until Monday.  On Sunday, a group of seven from Peace Church in North Carolina will be arriving and staying until Friday.  Next weekend a local group of 21 will be here for a weekend retreat.  We love having guests to serve, so consider bringing a group here for a mission trip!

EASTER MONDAY FUNDAY AT ALC

Easter Monday was a huge day for the Adventure Learning Centre.  The ALC staff (and many volunteers) hosted nearly 1200 Bahamian people who came to enjoy Easter Monday Funday at the Adventure Learning Centre.  The Funday is one way the ALC raises funds to operate the ministry.  It was a busy, long, hard day for us (partly because we didn’t know what to expect and partly because we were on our feet from early morning until late at night), but it was awesome seeing how the day unfolded and meeting and serving the Bahamian people.  We learned a lot, and can’t wait to do it again next year.  A couple days after the event, the ALC staff were able to get together to debrief.  It was a great learning experience for all of us.

The gates to the Adventure Learning Centre were opened for Easter Monday Funday at 11:00am.

Well, that is it for now.  We are looking forward to friends of ours being here for 10 days starting this next Tuesday.  They are coming to see us, vacation, and help us with some work projects here at the camp (maybe we will get the bathhouse showers done!).  Please pray for their safe travels.  Until next time, God bless!
